Well, I began my week making cookies and stuffing plastic Easter Eggs. The kids had all their Easter parties/Egg Hunts at school this week, and subsequently have been bouncing off the walls on a lingering sugar high...Aubrey officially started his spring break on Thursday, he got two extra days for teacher inservice. Cameron and Kylie still had preschool on Thursday so I got to spend the whole day with Aubrey, I love to spend individual time with my kids, and they are so perfectly behaved when they are not in competition for my attention. I took Aubrey to the office with me for a while, and then we went to Cinco de Mayo for lunch because Mexican is his very favorite, but when we got our food he barely ate which is very unusual for him, he spent most of the afternoon complaining about being cold and he couldn't warm up, so I took him home and lo and behold he has a 102 degree fever. Not much later he started throwing up, too. So, I have been wracking my brain to figure out where he might have picked this up, and of course, being a mom, my mind tends to wander to the worst cast scenario. He had gotten a tick bite at my parent's house 2 weeks ago so I just knew this was the beginning of Lyme disease....
I had promised the kids early in the week we could go to Chuck E Cheese on Friday because we had not been in forever, so I waited until about noon just to make sure Aubrey was feeling better, he had not thrown up in over 15 hours and had no fever. So I thought, okay, we'll go, he can just take it easy while the other 2 play. I had it in my head that it wouldn't be very crowded because Davidson and Wilson Cty. had already had their spring breaks. I totally forgot about Good Friday. We had to wait 10 minutes just to find a place to sit. There were kids coming out of the woodwork. I guess everyone decided Friday was a good Chuck E. Cheese day b/c it was too cold to go to a park or anything. It's kind of nice now that my kids are old enough to do their own thing at Chuck E. Cheese and I don't have to hover over them like they are toddlers. Plus the hand stamp things are great so I know they can't go out the door without me. I just find a central location to sit where I can keep an eye on them and read my magazine or whatever and they just come by every minute or two to get more tokens and hand me their mile-long strands of tickets. I gave up on the idea of keeping their tickets separated a long time ago. We just put all the tickets in the muncher no matter who won them, and then we divide the points so that the kids get three equal prizes. Usually we end up with little plastic bugs or crazy straws, but this time I convinced them they should be patient, and save the tickets and at the end of the summer, we'll redeem them for much better prizes.
So this morning, I woke up early and went to Target and left the kids with Mickey so I could do some very last minute Easter Basket shopping. I can't believe I waited this late! They were almost cleared out at Target, but I managed to find some cute little filler things for their baskets. I also went to Cracker Barrel and their stuff was 40% off so I think the kids will be pleased to see what the "Easter Bunny" brings them in their baskets tonight. I'll be vacuuming easter grass for the next 6 months. =)
I bought a couple dozen eggs so that we could boil them and color them this afternoon, that is something we've been doing since they were babies and they love it. It's the part of Easter that I really look forward to.
So I guess we'll be wearing our longjohns to church tomorrow! It seems like the cold spell always hits on Easter weekend when we have all our cute little sleeveless dresses and sandals to wear.
We're gearing up for Tuesday when we travel to D.C. to visit my aunt and uncle to pick up the car we're buying from them, so we're turning it into a mini vacation. We'll probably go to the National Zoo and the Smithsonians, Aubrey wants to go to the Air and Space Museum especially. I'll hopefully have some really cute pictures to post when we get back!
